Fort Dauphin - slopes and paradise

Day 1: Departure from Europe

Day 2: Arrival in Antananarivo
2 nights in "Les trois métisses" or "Au bois vert" hotel.

Days 3 & 4: Fort Dauphin and St. Luce
Our journey already starts on the flight to Fort Dauphin (2 hrs) along the central mountain range of Madagascar. Upon arrival, we go on a city tour, gather first impressions of the port city and fortify ourselves with a leisurely breakfast.
Afterwards we will start our road trip to St Luce, a small fishing village at the end of the world. Here we have the opportunity to visit the village before we leave by small boat to the Reserve de St Luce.

Day 4, we spend it in the jungle.
The nature in St Luce is untouched: Lemurs and parrots live here hidden in the primary forest. Behind the forest you can hear the wild Indian Ocean, whose kilometer long beach invites to extensive walks. Without any civilization, the reserve is a perfect place to listen exclusively to nature. 2 nights in simple bungalows/full board.

Days 5 & 6: Nahampoina Reserve
Today, we ride for a 2-hour drive to the Nahampoina Reserve, where we will spend 2 nights (https://nahampoanareserve.com). The reserve is located in the middle of a large garden, surrounded by extensive forests in which countless plants and lemurs are native. On a guided night walk, under the fascinating southern starry sky, we will look for the nocturnal animals of the forest (mouse lemurs & Co.).
On day 6 we go where the pepper grows. Today's easy hike takes us through the bright green rice fields and tranquil nature. We cross a forest where red pepper grows and finally arrive at a natural pool for a refreshing swim. Strengthened by a hearty picnic, we hike back. The afternoon is free in the realm of the lemurs (GZ 4 hrs.).

Day 7 & 8: Berenty, thorn forest, stars and mouse maki
It could hardly be more contrasting. From the green wet Madagascar, we continue our journey to the dusty dry part of the big island. A real road adventure lies ahead of us on the way to the Berenty reserve (about 4 hours driving time). The landscape changes significantly. The land gets drier and drier and we discover natural specialists perfectly adapted to life in aridity and heat. Our overnight stay in the middle of a sisal plantation in Berenty Lodge, invite us to a night walk in the dry forest. The next day we walk through the reserve, visit the plantation.
The rest of the afternoon is at leisure. 2 nights at Berenty Lodge: https://www-personal.umd.umich.edu/~fdolins/berenty/

Day 9: The beautiful Fort Dauphin
On day 8, we drive on the dirty road back to Fort Dauphin (4 hrs), we spend the afternoon in at the beach or at the swimming pool. If you want you can walk to the popular beach of Libanona (30 min) 3 nights at Talinjoo Hotel.

Day 10: Hiking in Lokaro, along the dream beach
Today nature has something very special in store for us. After a short drive we arrive at a lake. By motorboat we set sail to our destination Evatra (about 1 hour). The crossing on calm sea is breathtakingly beautiful. Our passage is lined with small mangroves and other water plants, passing small villages, along the dunes that separate us from the sea. Arrived in Evatra, a typical Malagasy village, we start our 4 hour coastal walk (easy). Herem man and nature become one. The beauty of the lush green landscape and the wild ocean with its meter-high waves speak for themselves. In a small protected bay we can refresh ourselves in the cool water. From Lokaro we walk back to the village, where we stop in Evatra and return by boat in the backdrop of the sunset.
